Our historical collections are made available for research under specific terms of use. Central starting points for your research are the Special Reading Room in the Central Library, as well as the University Archives for archival documents. Here you find an overview of the collections which are of great significance for research, including information on how to gain access.

  • Historical CollectionsThe ULB owns valuable old stocks and collections, among them manuscripts, incunabula, rare books, playbills, posters, and bequests.
  • Digital CollectionsThe ULB is digitizing historical collections dated before circa 1900.
  • Thomas-Mann-CollectionThe ULB Thomas-Mann-Collection is one of the most comprehensive commemorative institutions of Thomas Mann and his family.
  • State LibraryAs a State Library, the ULB collects deposit copies and literature on regional studies.
  • University ArchivesThe University Archives in Building 23.03 collect and hold documents of the Heinrich-Heine-University (HHU) and the University Hospital (Universitätsklinikum, UKD) which are of historical or legal importance.
