Book appraisals

Does your family own an old book and you want to know if it is valuable and/or rare? What should be borne in mind when preserving or restoring books? The experts from ULB’s State Library and Special Collections division are able to answer countless questions on old books – be they medieval manuscripts, incunabula or prints from past centuries or handwritten bequests, letters or suchlike.

Kindly use the contact details above for your request about a maximum of 5 books. Don’t forget to state the title, author, place of publication, year of publication and publisher of the respective book. Ideally, a digital photo of the book’s title page should be sent by email.

Consultation from 3 to 5pm on site in building 24.21, 1st floor, room 82. The building is to the right of the Central Library.

We alternatively offer the option of emailing us the details of a maximum of five books, along with photos of the title page and cover. On the day of the book appraisal, you’ll receive an appraisal of the books indicated.
