Profile

As a central operating unit of Heinrich Heine University (HHU) Düsseldorf, University and State Library (ULB) Düsseldorf is responsible for supplying the entire university with literature and information. As a central place of learning and working on the HHU campus, its extensive services are oriented to the needs of its around 65,000 users.

ULB Düsseldorf acquires physical and digital publications and licences according to the e-preferred principle and makes these available via the ULB catalogue. It comprises the Central Library, five further media locations and a (self) study centre. Diverse advising and training services are available both at the library and online – from individual consultations via chat, through courses on literature search, to comprehensive modules to enhance information skills and digital literacy.

ULB Düsseldorf strives to continuously expand its data and publication services for research, teaching, studies and administration with offers for (open-access) publishing, bibliometric analyses and data and licence management as well as subject-specific information (e.g. on FID licences). It cooperates closely with HHU’s faculties and other institutions on aspects such as research data management to this end and networks with national information infrastructure partners. ULB Düsseldorf has been preserving the cultural legacy of the city and region for 250 years now. In collaboration with the university and state libraries in Münster and Bonn, it compiles physical and digital media published in North Rhine-Westphalia. Within the scope of various projects and cooperations, it moreover digitalises, indexes and presents historical book collections and is therefore a supplier of data for research in the field of digital humanities. It is committed to the dialogue between science and society, and hosts exhibitions and events to fulfil HHU’s role as a citizens’ university.
