ULB Atlas of Language Literature and Data
ULB Atlas of Language Literature and Data (ULB.ALL-D) is a search tool that focuses not on the type of media, but on the research subject "language". Starting from the chosen language, you can initiate your literature search in the ULB holdings combined with data search in relevant data repositories with just one click.
Languages for which media are available in the ULB holdings are represented on the world map with a location symbol. Clicking on a language opens a pop-up window containing links to the ULB catalog, the OLAC data archive and the Glottolog database:
- The ULB catalogue link will take you to the ULB catalog showing you relevant literature about, but not necessarily written in, that language.
- The OLAC link will take you to the Language Archives by the Open Language Archives Community where you can find data and further resources for the language in question.
- The Glottolog link will take you to the language entry in the database Glottolog where you can find additional references.
ULB.ALL-D is a pilot project that is currently operating with only part of the ULB holdings (status as of 03/2026). We would be happy to receive feedback on the usability and functionalities of the tool at all-d(at)ulb.hhu.de.
ULB.ALL-D visualizes part of the holdings of ULB Düsseldorf, which have been enriched with additional information.1
The visualization2 relies on ISO‑code information about the language discussed in a publication, as recorded in the bibliography of the database Glottolog 5.2.3 All entries of the type book (monograph), edited collection, or (PhD) thesis which contain at least one ISBN as well as a Glottocode or ISO code, were extracted from the Glottolog bibliography. These entries were matched with the holdings of ULB Düsseldorf: the metadata of all titles present in the ULB holdings were enriched with ISO-codes for the languages under investigation. In addition to the ISO-code information, these title records were also enriched with geo-data based on Glottolog's language-location relation.
Further relevant titles in the holdings of ULB are enriched with ISO-code information and geo-data during the cataloging process. All enrichments are based on language information from the database Glottolog.
Links to OLAC and Glottolog are automatically produced from ISO‑code information.
