Systematic Classification ?abc=s#name362
The freely accessible books in the reading rooms and in the decentralized libraries are displayed according to subject fields (systematically ordered). Please find information on how exactly this system works in our subject classification system.

A systematic call number (also called open access call number) such as "phyx600.s387" is composed as follows:
- phy -> discipline (phy = physics)
- x -> main group (x = astronomy)
- 600 -> secondary group (600 = solar system)
- s387 -> alphabetic division (usually by author).

On the shelves, first look for the letter of the main group (x) within your discipline (phy); then you have to look for the secondary group (600) within the "phyx" area; now you can look for the letter in the alphabetic division (s) among the books with "phyx600" call numbers and finally for the number (387).
