Access to our libraries / opening hours
  • Open libraries / opening hours:

    • Central Library and Law Library
      10 am to 7 pm (daily)
       
    • Medical Library
      10 am to 7 pm (Mo - Fri) 10 am to 4 pm (Sat)
       
    • University Archive

    Access to our libraries:

    • Access is currently restricted to patrons carrying a valid HHU-Card or library card of ULB Düsseldorf. Due to legal requirements by the state of North-Rhine-Westphalia, we are required to register your visit and save your phone number for the duration of four weeks. Should you simply want to return books or pay your due fees you will not need to register your visit.
    • Information for patrons trying to renew their library card or who do not yet own a library card.
    • Wearing a mouth-nose covering inside the library is required.
How to book and use work and study spaces
    • We currently offer a limited set of work and study spaces.
    • Using our booking system you can book up to six hours in the Central Library, Law Library or Medical Library.
    • Booking a seat is required before using it!
    • Please take note of the usage rules below.
    • Group and single study rooms currently cannot be used as usual. Please use only the work and study spaces we have labeled as such.

    How to book:

    • To book a seat you will need your uni log-in or library card login details.
    • Seats can be booked for up to six hours. If you want to reserve a seat for more than one hour, please select the starting time and then select the end of your wished time slot. Please do not click twice on a time slot.
    • Seats can be booked up to one week in advance.
    • Should you change your plans please cancel your reserved seats.
       

    Usage rules:

    • All work and study spaces are numbered. Please use only the seat you have booked. You can check your reserved seats in the booking system.
    • If you would like to clean your seat and study area you can use our disinfectant stationed on every floor.
    • Wearing a mouth-nose covering is required while moving through the Library. Once you are seated at your work and study space you can take it off.
    • Please note that seats and tables are not to be moved or re-arranged.
    • Reserved seats that are not in use after 20 minutes are cancelled and free to use.

     

    Please note:

    Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and construction in the Central Library we are currently offering only a reduced set of work and study spaces. Construction noise might arise.

Online resources
    • We provide access to E-Books, E-Journals and academic databases. You can find them in our catalogue. As a member of Heinrich Heine university you can access these resources from home using VPN or Shibboleth. We provide a detailed handout with instructions here (German).
    • We are constantly adding to our E-Book collection. You can find an overview of newly added E-Book packages here (German).
    • Should you need an E-Book that is not yet in our collections please send us a purchase suggestion.
    • You have found an E-Book online but a contact person from ULB tells you we cannot purchase it? Please be aware that there are some restrictions to E-Book purchases and refer to our FAQ (German).
    • To support research and teaching efforts at HHU during this time we have developed a literature delivery service through which employees of HHU can order scans of printed journal articles and book chapters from ULB collections for free. This service is available for all faculties. 
Information literacy teaching resources
    • Use the ULB Online Kit (German) to learn more about how to access our online resources from home.
    • Use our ULB-Kompass (German) to learn more about finding sources and using them in your papers and theses. Lessons are provided in small E-Learning bites. Or use our Lernmodul Informationskompetenz. Here you'll learn everything from how to start a literature search to managing your references.
