Download formats and interfaces

The images created during the scanning process are linked to various metadata according to the METS/MODS standard. Based on this, ULB offers metadata in different formats and via several interfaces. Image files and, depending on the condition and quality of the original, full texts can also be downloaded from the Digital Collections.

The following file formats are available for download:

  • pure image file in various resolutions (.jpeg)
  • image file, possibly with embedded full text, as searchable PDF (.pdf)
  • pure text file (.txt)
  • full text enriched with layout information as an ALTO-XML file (.xml)

In addition, high-resolution TIFFs can be provided as part of a WiScan job.

All ULB digitised materials are  IIIF-compatible. IIIF (International Image Interoperability Framework) is a freely accessible technology that enables the exchange of digital objects. Thus, digitised material from different institutions and portals can be merged, compared and annotated. The IIIF manifests are available at title level in the portal and can be loaded into freely accessible viewers.

In case you require larger amounts of data for a project, please contact us. It is possible to download the data via the OAI-PMH interface (prior technical knowledge required).
